The AI Pilot Project:
From Writer to AI-Powered CMO.
Every client now asks the same question in some form: what happens to writing when AI does most of it? Working with another agency, we decided to find out on a live engagement rather than guess.
The pilot asked one thing: Could a skilled writer, working with AI, produce an entire quarter of content marketing for a financial firm, alone, and would the work perform?
The answer was a twenty-page whitepaper, three monthly newsletters, sixty social posts, and five blog posts, with every piece tied to one set of themes.
And, most importantly —
The best three months in the history of the firm's website.
The engagement ran through the world's leading financial content marketing agency, for a private wealth management firm that serves business owners approaching a sale. The client is confidential, and its work is presented here with names and links removed. Further detail and private samples are available on request.
This page departs from the other portfolio pages in one respect: it opens with the results. The work follows.
On this page:
The Results
The whitepaper launched by email and social, with the newsletters and blog posts carrying its themes over the following twelve weeks. The AI produced the content. The campaign produced the traffic.
The client's own analytics recorded the following during the campaign —
5,000+ clicks to the firm's consultation booking page during the campaign, the most in the site's history.
2× the site's previous best month for total page views at the campaign's peak.
The booking page saw roughly five times its previous best month.
No. 1. The launch email is the best-performing content email the firm has sent. 20,000 email opens and 8,300 clicks across the whitepaper campaign.
LinkedIn reach and clicks both peaked during the campaign. Firm LinkedIn engagement rate rose from low single digits before the campaign to roughly 18% at its close.
The Brief: Nine-slide summary of the pilot, prepared for prospective clients who want the numbers in one place. Includes summary, what was produced, the traffic and email results, and what the program showed.
The Work
One writer, with AI, drafted and edited every piece. Every format was built from the whitepaper outward, so that a reader who met the firm anywhere, in an inbox, in a feed, in a search result, would meet the same argument.
This means —
Manual writing was strictly limited to the edges: a sentence corrected here, a claim checked there, an occasional rewrite.
The agency team provided client support.
Images for social were generated with AI.
Two pieces are shown below: the whitepaper, and the email that launched the campaign.
Case Study:
"On Owner Readiness" Whitepaper
The Brief
The anchor whitepaper for the AI Pilot program, written under the name of the firm's founder for business owners three to ten years from a sale.
The paper argues that owners who plan only for price leave money and satisfaction on the table, and sets out a three-part framework: the transferable value of the business, the owner's personal financial readiness, and the plan for life after the sale. It draws on published research from the exit-planning profession and runs to twenty pages with figures.
Every section was drafted with AI and edited by the writer; the framework, sources, and structure were set by the writer before drafting began.
The client is confidential. The principal is not named. The sample shown is the manuscript with the firm's branding, contact details, and links removed.
Excerpt:
“To illustrate: a company generating $20 million in annual revenue at 15% EBITDA ($3 million) sold at a 6x multiple would command $18 million, while the same company at 10% EBITDA ($2 million) and a 3.5x multiple would sell for only $7 million.
Understanding these gaps early allows owners to implement value enhancement strategies well before a transition.”

Whitepaper Launch Email
The Brief
The first of three monthly newsletters, sent to the firm's subscriber list to launch the whitepaper.
The email had one job: get a business owner to click through to a twenty-page document. It states the three-part framework in three short sections, tells the reader why the timing matters, and closes with a consultation offer.
This email became the best-performing content email in the firm's history, with a 21% click rate; the two newsletters that followed each carried one theme from the paper in more depth.
The client is confidential. The sample shows the manuscript as delivered, with the firm's name, links, and footer removed.
Excerpt:
“Many owners wait too long to prepare. This whitepaper lays out a proactive path — whether you're 3 years or 10 years from an exit."

What We Tell Clients Now
The pilot settled a few things:
One writer with AI can carry a full quarter of content for a financial firm: anchor piece, monthly email, daily social, and a blog, on one set of themes, at a pace no writer could sustain alone. The output was not thin. The whitepaper went out under the founder's name, with figures and sources, and the launch email beat everything the firm had sent before.
The value sits in the writer's judgment. The AI did not decide what a business owner needs to hear, what the firm could responsibly say, which sources to trust, or which of its own drafts were wrong. Without those decisions, the same tools produce content that is fluent, plausible, and of no use.
One anchor with everything tied to it beats a stream of unrelated posts. The structure did as much for the results as any single piece.
We now use AI wherever the client permits it, and say so. Where a client prefers we do not, we do not.
The difference shows up in pace and price, not in whose judgment the work reflects.
